How to Register a Domain Name

So you want your own blog for your home business?  Great idea!

You have a few options when it comes to setting up a blog.  You could use a free service, such as, or you can register your own, unique domain name and have a web property that you own, manage, and fully control.

Which option should you choose?

If you are just playing around and getting your feet wet, start with the free option.  That way you can at least get a feel for building a blog without any of the costs.

But if you are serious about building a business, even if you have no clue what you’re doing yet, I highly recommend that you register your own domain name and set up a blog on that domain.

First of all, where to go to buy the domain?  There are several good websites for domain registration — GoDaddy, Dotster, NameCheap — but the one I most recommend is NameCheap.  It’s easy to use and less expensive than most.
